After fitting some Galfer Moto Discs to my K9 SV650S daily commuter, it got me thinking. Who else uses Galfer discs to bring them to a controlled and rapid stop?
After a bit of investigation, it turns out Galfer discs are used right up to the highest levels of racing, including Moto2, Moto3 and World Superbikes (WSBK). The disc used specifically is the Racing Disc Wave® CW1.
So, how does the CW2 disc differ from the CW1 wavey’s that I fitted to my SV? Well, apart from a few extra cooling holes, they’re manufactured to the same level of quality as the full-fat racing discs, like that Remy Gardner uses in the Moto2 championship. Good to know right?

Benefits of the Racing Disc Wave® CW1
Apart from making your machine looking like a thoroughbred race bike, there are numerous advantages to swapping out the stock discs with Galfer ones, which include:
Reduced weight
Increased stopping power
More efficient heat dissipation
Excellent corrosion resistance due to anodized, chromed and stainless material processes
Greatly reduced tendency to warp under extreme heating
Maintains a cleaner contact surface with the pad
Whilst changing the discs alone will improve braking performance, I noticed the best results came after swapping to some Galfer G1375 sintered pads and Wezmoto Braided brake lines. These steps literally transformed the braking power on my SV650 - a bike renowned for a rubbish stock brake setup. The only thing the standard discs on an SV are good for is being made into a clock.

That’s a pretty impressive array of riders, and for good reason. These discs and pads work a treat. From road to race, there’s a Galfer disc to suit everyone.
