Energica sparks back into life following bankruptcy
Reports point to Energica being saved after investors in the Italian electric motorcycle maker have been found.

Enerigca looks to have pulled a move that is reminiscent of KTM’s recent return to form, after the Italian electric motorcycle maker states it is “resurging” following its bankruptcy.
A video, posted on the official Energica YouTube channel, has confirmed the news, with the process of restructuring the company set to be complete in around 60 days. That means that by September, the new investors should all be in place, but apart from that, not much else is to change.

Speaking in the video, Stefano Benatti states that the same core team as before will be driving the brand forwards, and that task one on the agenda is to support it’s existing customers and the electric bike community. The full transcript from the video statement can be found below.
“The news is true, Energica is resurging. Energica has always strived to make the highest performance motorcycles steeped in Italian design, with [the] utmost customer service.
“The judicial process undergoing the sale of Energica has received an offer with a significant deposit from investors based in Singapore. They are enthusiasts that believe in, and share the common values of Energica.
“If the process comes through successfully, the same team behind Energica will be entrusted to run the operations, and we will continue creating cutting-edge technologies for our customers. Our first order of business is to support the customers and community.
“The judicial process will be completed in 60 days. We will continue to share updates during the time. The road ahead is challenging as we build Energica into a robust business for our customers, distributors, supply partners, & investors.”

Energica: So what gave out?

To put it simply, the electric bike market. Energica positioned itself front and centre in the two-wheel EV market as one of the most premium of premium e-bike brands. It wasn’t interested in churning out cheap and cheerful urban runabouts. Instead, Energica wanted to go toe-to-toe with the best of the petrol-powered motorcycle makers. We’re talking Ducati, Triumph, Honda, et al. The trouble is, those are the kind of electric bikes that aren’t selling, while the cheap and cheerful runabouts, which Energica was so keen to avoid building, are.
Whether or not Energica will be able to continue as it was before remains to be seen. The premium electric bike market is still in a state of flux, meaning we may see a shift in the products Energica sells. While the marque's more premium, heavyweight bikes are likely to continue, we’d expect those machines to be offset by some mass-market EVs. The kind that people are actually buying.
