A Giacomo Agostini MV Agusta 500cc Grand Prix replica was sold at auction for €200,000.

In total, 18 bikes were put up for auction at the Le Mans Classic, although only 8 of those were sold. The Agostini MV Agusta replica was one of those.

The estimate for the three-cylinder replica was between 200-250,000 euros, according to Moto.it, but it fetched just under the lower end of that range with 199,660 euros.

The replica was made in 2010, so not a new motorcycle. But, at the same time, it is not an original MV Grand Prix racer of the 1960s. Nonetheless, the replication is a good one (and one of six that were built), and received the signature of Agostini himself.

Agostini and MV Agusta are of course synonymous with each other. Although the 15-times World Champion also rode Yamahas and Suzukis during his career, it is his time with MV Agusta for which he is best known. Similarly, MV Agusta’s status as one of the most important manufacturers in the history of Grand Prix racing is largely built on the success they found with Agostini in the 1960s and 1970s.

The MV Agusta replica was by no means the only bike to be auctioned, though. Among the seven other bikes to sell was a 2002 Ducati MH 900e, which fetched €19,070.

Additionally, a Kawasaki 500H1 Mach 3 from 1969 went for €15,496, a Harley-Davidson Sportster XLCH 883 was sold for €23,840, and a one-off motorcycle from Zero Engineering went for €29,204. Finally, an Aermacchi was sold for €7,150.
