Brighton-based customisers Pier City Cycles unveiled a new custom version of the BMW R 12, named ‘Street Ride’, last week.

The bike is a retro take on the R 12 cruiser, new for this year and familiar with the R 12 nineT. Both bikes make use of a 1,270cc twin-cylinder boxer engine producing, in the case of the R 12, 95bhp and 81lb ft.

The custom bike features a glittery orange tank courtesy of Valkyrie Paintworks, “creating a 1970s feel,” BMW says.

There’s also a bespoke headlight cowl, front mudguard, rear shock, and exhaust system, which BMW says highlight “the custom capabilities of the BMW R 12.”

BMW Motorrad Product Manager Carina Hoefler said: "The customisation possibilities of the R 12 are endless, and I think the Pier City Cycles R 12 custom, 'Street Ride', is absolutely showing its potential! It emphasises the retro look of the bike with its shiny metallic paint job, giving off a nice 70s vibe. They added their own bespoke touches, including the removal of the airbox, which I like very much. I think it's beautiful and it fits the bike perfectly - they did a brilliant job."

‘Street Ride’ was unveiled at the Bike Shed Moto Show which took place in London over the weekend. The show also saw a pair of Ducati Scrambler concepts unveiled on Friday evening, one inspired by cafe racer aesthetics and the other taking on a more rugged, traditional ‘scrambler’ look.
