DUNLOP is planning to build one of its iconic motorsport bridges over the M6 in Birmingham, alongside the factory where it began manufacturing tyres in 1916.

Construction on the proposed £5 million Dunlop Motorsport Centenary Bridge will be completed in 2016, to coincide with the firm’s centenary at Fort Dunlop in Birmingham. It will stand at 20 metres high and 50 metres wide above the six lanes of the M6.

James Bailey, Director of Motorsport Marketing & Communications of Dunlop Motorsport, said: “Our iconic bridges are synonymous with motor sport and are embedded in the history of some of the world’s great race circuits such as Le Mans and Bathurst in Australia. We also had a bridge at Donington Park until its redevelopment in 2009, so feel it is only right that there should be another in the UK.

“The Dunlop Motorsport Centenary Bridge will pay homage to the great work we’ve done for Birmingham and UK business, developing new technologies, building partnerships and exporting tyres to high profile championships across the world.

“This year alone we will be supplying over 250,000 tyres over the course of the season to over 500 different racing teams across more than 30 different championships worldwide from our Birmingham centre of excellence. Now UK drivers can join some of the greats of motor sport driving under our bridge on the M6 every day.”
