Joan Pedrero to take on Africa Eco Race on Pan America 1250
The event takes place across 6,000 miles and will see the Dakar ace racing his Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 from 30 December 2023 until 14 January 2024.
Harley-Davidson is looking to put its Pan America 1250 in the shop window this Christmas, although it’s not going to be some swanky London department store - the Pan America 1250 is heading to Africa, to take part in the gruelling Africa Eco Race.
The bike will be ridden by Dakar racer Joan Pedrero and will be competing in the Maxi-Trail category which allows bikes from 950cc and up to complete. The category was designed to enable manufacturers to showcase their road-going large-capacity adventure bikes.
This isn’t Joan’s first foray into the field of competition aboard the Pan America 1250, and he’s already taken part in the Bassella Race, the Baja TT Dehesa Extremadura and the Baja Aragón España which saw him scoop the top spot on the podium in the Maxi-Trail class. He’s also been a vital part of the Pan America’s development as an adventure racer since the bike was launched in 2021. Pedrero’s racing career began in 2004, securing a runner-up spot in the Spanish Junior Enduro championship in just his first year.
Speaking about the news, Kolja Rebstock, Harley-Davidson Regional Vice President for Europe, Middle East and Africa said:
“Adventure and performance are the heart of our brand, and we can think of no better way to showcase the versatility of the Pan America than entering the Africa Eco Race. We are excited to be taking on this next challenge with Joan Pedrero after the great success we have had together throughout 2023.”
