London Fire Brigade relaunches Biker Down scheme
Free sessions teach motorcyclists what to do if they’re first on the scene of a motorcycle accident
THE LONDON Fire Brigade is restarting the Biker Down training programme it ran last year for motorcyclists in London, in partnership with the Met Police, London Ambulance Service and TfL
Although Biker Down does teach practical tips for safer riding, its focus is on teaching riders what to do if they come across the scene of a motorcycle accident; when one rider is involved in a collision; the first person on the scene is often another rider.
Sessions will cover what to do if your find yourself in this situation and is motorcycle-specific, so teaches riders how to treat major bleeding and safe helmet removal.
The free sessions, which last approximately four hours, will take place at West Norwood police station on alternate Saturdays and Sundays on the last weekend of every month. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance plus an immediate aid kit designed to be carried under the seat of a bike and they’ll also qualify for a discount to attend the BikeSafe-London Rider Skills Day scheme.
There are 40 spaces available, with 20 spaces in each session. For more information or to book a space, head to the Biker Down website.
