2020 gains another two-wheeled film in the form of ‘To Be Someone’ a story of modern-day mods, music, and scooter culture.

The film follows Danny, who lives, drinks and eats the Mod lifestyle just like his father did before him. Taking over his Dad’s scooter dealership and night club, Danny unwittingly inherits his Dad’s dodgy past, as Mad Mike, an underworld mobster, threatens Danny's family. He then forces him into smuggling drugs from the Isle of Wight for him. With help from Danny's mum Judy (Quadrophenia star Leslie Ash) and some of his dads mates, Tommy (Mark Wingett), Bunny (Toyah Wilcox), Charlie (Gary Shail) and Rudy (Trevor Laird) they come up with a plan to use The Isle Of Wight scooter rally as a cover to bring the drugs back.

Having successfully retrieved the drugs from an old deserted mansion they arrange a handover to Mad Mike and his right-hand man, Dickson (Ray Burdis) a corrupt police detective who's been on Mikes's payroll for years. The scene is set to hand the drugs over at some old wasteland, but it all goes horribly wrong and they all get arrested!

Despite the obvious nods to the original Quadrophenia movie of 1973, the new movie is not directly linked to the original film, aside from sharing some of the cast, with The Who frontman, Roger Daltrey blasting the film by claiming the band ‘haven’t given this project our blessing’.

speaking to NME before filming had begun, To Be Someone director, Ray Burdis, said:

“I totally agree that Quadrophenia is a classic, iconic film that should never be revisited. If The Who management had actually read the script of To Be Someone, they would have realised it is not an attempt at a Quadrophenia sequel but a stand-alone film based on modern day Mod culture. It’s a feel good, fun, fashion and music extravaganza.”

To Be Someone is scheduled for release in April 2020.
