Solidarity Pilots auction raises €53,000 for charity

A charity auction called Solidarity Pilots has raised €53,462 for a COVID-19 charity, as the biggest names in motorcycle sports combined to auction off one of a kind lots.

The auction, organised by the Royal Spanish Motorcycling Federation, raised the funds for Red Cross Responds, to help fight against the effects of the COVID-19 crisis.

The auction included 43 lots, including donations from more than twenty world champions from the world of motorcycle sport.

Rins and Marquez were two of the auction' biggest draws

There were three clear stars of the auction, with those lots combined bringing in almost half of the total amount raised. The biggest draw was a set of Marc Marquez’ Repsol Honda MotoGP leathers, bringing in a whopping €16,000 alone. The next biggest sale was the signed helmet at Suzuki MotoGP rider Alex Rins, netting €9,000 for the charity.

The third biggest winner of the auction was probably the most useful of the entire sale, with Manuel Casado, president of the RFME, entering a Bultaco Sherpa 250 T into the auction. That classic off-road machine ended up selling for €4,700 – a bargain compared to the leathers of Mr Marquez.
