It’s seemingly a good time to be KTM at the moment having just launched the new track-only RC 8C sportsbike and announced Dani Pedrosa will bolster its racing line-up for the Styrian MotoGP.

But if your interest in KTM happens to be at a boardroom level then the most significant news of the week will have been the unveiling of sales figures that represent a huge jump for the wider Pierer Mobility Group.

The Austrian firm has released its sales for the first half of 2021 and revealed sales across the board are up a stonking 95% compared with the same period as last year.

Now, it is obviously worth pointing out that the first six months of 2020 were spent in the grip of the COVID-19 crisis, where lockdown measures were in place for much of that period across the world, thus inevitably inflating this year’s figures by a more disproportionate amount.

Nevertheless, while we should perhaps pop a * disclaimer on that year-on-year growth, and point out it is now incorporating GasGas into its figures having assumed a majority stake in the Spanish company in 2019, KTM have still notched up some impressive sales regardless.

Globally it shifted 176,045 motorcycle units across its KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas brands, plus an extra 53,378 e-bikes across Husqvarna, GasGas and Raymon.

Broken down into regions, Europe remains Pierer’s biggest market, accounting for 73,224 sales across the six month period, but it was in the US where the company made the greatest headway with a 160% jump to 30,419 sales. It also posted big + figures in India and Australasia at 52% and 25% gains respectively.

So while the gains should be viewed with a certain degree of scepticism, they still represent some eye-catching figures, especially for Piere’s main rivals.
