KTM, Husqvarna drive record sales jump in 2019
KTM and Husqvarna's global model offensive drives the group to record sales in 2019 for a ninth consecutive year, selling 280,099 units
Pierer Mobility – parent company of KTM and Husqvarna – have announced a sizeable rise annual sales with 280,099 units sold in 2019, representing a growth of 7%.
The Austrian company went through a series of behind-the-scenes changes in 2019, primarily the decision to spin the parent company (formerly KTM Industries) off from its KTM branding in favour a new name, Pierer Mobility AG.
The company also embarked on a model offensive which continues into 2020 with the unveiling of the new KTM 1290 Super Duke R and the burgeoning launch of a new 490 platform that will be manufactured in China.
With sales calculated between KTM and Husqvarna the company showed strong growth overall, marking the ninth consecutive year it has grown its sales tally.
New for 2020, Pierer Mobility will grow to offer a trio of brands after acquiring a majority stake in GasGas company. The Spanish firm is known for its trials and endure bikes, but a leaked document recently revealed Pierer plans to develop roadgoing models based on KTM platforms including a naked and adventure bike.
It also has grand plans for the Husqvarna brand, which will launch a brand-new adventure tourer range under the Norden branding, beginning with the 901 (based on the KTM 890 platform) followed by a 701 and 401 model.
The Swedish firm will also be getting the first electric technology of the brand with a zero tailpipe emissions scooter based on the India-only Chetak produced by KTM’s large shareholder Bajaj Auto. KTM is also expected to get its own badge-engineered model too as part of plans to launch a performance-orientated electric range.
