Joan Mir will be assessed again ahead of Saturday’s action after his sickness resulted in him missing his press duties on Thursday, before being ruled out of Friday’s double MotoGP practice at Misano.

Despite Honda having another woeful time of it in MotoGP this season, and let’s be honest, it hasn’t been much better in WSBK either, Mir recently decided to commit his future to the Japanese company for another two seasons, keeping him at Honda until the end of 2026.

But missing out on Friday practice, which Honda says is down to “continued intense gastroenteritis”, the 2020 world champion will be on the backfoot even more if he’s able to zip up his leathers on Saturday.

Prior to the weekend, Mir said: “We are going to get to know Misano very well over the next few weeks! It’s a good circuit to ride and you can learn a good amount there, we know a little bit of what to expect after our one day of running a few weeks ago.

“From Aragon, we got some very good information about the bike and our situation, so all these days in Misano will give us an opportunity to assess that deeper. As always, we head into the weekend looking to make the most of every lap.”

In his absence for this afternoon’s second practice session, Honda will be relying on Johann Zarco, Takaaki Nakagami and Mir’s team-mate Luca Marini.

Following this weekend’s Misano MotoGP round, Mir, if fit and the remainder of Honda’s contingent will be staying at the beautiful Adriatico coast for a post-race test on Monday. Once a giant in MotoGP, Honda needs all the help it can get as it continues to languish down the pecking order compared to its European rivals.
