Vice President Kamala Harris was travelling in a convoy alongside Governor Tim Walz when a police motorcycle outrider was involved in a crash, temporarily halting the motorcade.

The crash occurred on the Veterans Parkway exit on Interstate 516 in Georgia, as Harris and Walz were rounding out Wednesday's bus tour. It’s reported the rider of the bike skidded and then crashed, with photos from the scene showing them lying on their back on the ground as they are tended to by other police officers. After a short halt to the precession of around three minutes, the motorcade then began to move again, with one vehicle being left behind to assist the officer.

It’s still not fully known what caused the spill, although initial reports suggest a skid and then losing control of the bike, and it’s thought that a collision with another vehicle or object on the road has already been ruled out. It’s also not fully known whether the injuries sustained by the rider of the bike are serious or not.

Images from the scene show a Harley-Davidson Street Glide motorcycle lying on its righthand side in the road. The bike is a specialised version of Harley’s top-spec American Grand Tourer, and as such is decked out with specialist equipment and parts such as a radio system, lights, sirens and engine protection bars. The images of the bike show the top box being open with wires (presumably relating to the sirens or radio system) hanging from the bike. This suggests the spill was fairly significant, such as the force needed to break open the locks and latches of this type of pannier.
