If you have ever wanted to know what it takes to build a world-class trials bike, GasGas has put together a handy video explaining what is involved.

The Spanish brand is preparing to launch its 2023 range of trials machines, but before the official launch it has described and explained the processes involved in developing a base that is already accepted as one of the best there is.

“Working collaboratively to understand where and why improvements needed to be made. Checking, monitoring, and analysing all-important data. Understanding rider requests. Utilising resources. Blending new design ideas with decades of hands-on trial experience. Taking proven concepts and managing real-world, hands-on outdoor testing in the toughest conditions. Design, build, test, repeat.” This is what GasGas puts its development process down to in a press release.

Thankfully, the documentary-style video, which you can watch below, offers more insight and more interesting explanations. It speaks to Joachim Sauer, GasGas’ trials project manager whose motorcycling experience began with trials before he stepped into enduro.

On the other side, there is Javier Zapata, whose interest in riding trials only began when he began to work with GasGas’ trials team. “As soon as I was involved in the trials project, I started to try, and now I cannot really live without trials riding,” Zapata said.

Surely, this is a big part of GasGas’ development process, too. Gathering people who have the passion not just for trials, but motorcycles in general, and who can focus that general motorcycling passion into trials when they become involved with it.

We have seen it in many cases that passion is one of the most important things when trying to create something that is the best in the world. In MotoGP, Valentino Rossi’s passion for racing motorcycles is what kept him at the top for more than 20 years, and in motocross the same passion is what helped keep Antonio Cairoli at the top for 15 years, and what took him to America this year, after the end of his MXGP career.

It is not as visible, but surely the same can be said for engineers. Gigi Dall’Igna used his passion to go to the top with Aprilia in Superbike racing, and now Romano Albesiano is doing the same with Aprilia’s MotoGP project. For GasGas, the passion of its engineers plays an undoubted role in the development of its trials project.
