Harley-Davidson and LiveWire launch S2 Del Mar... and it immediately sells out
Harley-Davidson have released real images of the anticipated S2 Del Mar for the first time, and there are now more details about the bikes performance.
Harley-Davidson and LiveWire have launched their anticipated S2 Del Mar, with the first images of the physical bike being shown.
The Launch Edition of the bike came in 100 models, all of which were sold in minutes. Those who were able to grab a Launch Edition (for $17,699, or just over £14,000) will receive their S2 Del Mar in Spring 2023.
As we reported back in mid-February, the S2 Del Mar will be the first LiveWire-branded bike to make use of its proprietary Arrow architecture, which encapsulates the battery, speed controller, inverter, charger, and motor. The architecture is scalable, meaning it should be the base of LiveWire’s bikes going forwards, and the standard architecture of the bikes will mean that updates can be applied to bikes post-release.
Soy Motero reports that the bike will make 80 horsepower, which will power the bike to 100kph in 3.5 seconds thanks to the relatively light weight (200kg) of the bike (for an electric, at least). Compared to the original LiveWire, the S2 Del Mar will be 60kg lighter.
On the open road, the S2 Del Mar is expected to have a range of around 80km (49 miles), or 160km (98 miles) in the city.
Once the 100 Launch Edition bikes are delivered, Harley and LiveWire will begin to put the standard version of the bike to market. This means that for everyone but the 100 who have been able to grab a launch bike, we will have to wait for one year before we can get our hands on an S2 Del Mar of our own.
According to Soy Motero, Jochen Zeitz, President and CEO of Harley-Davidson, said, "The S2 Del Mar model represents the next step in the evolution of the LiveWire brand. The Arrow architecture that underpins Del Mar, developed in-house at LiveWire Labs, demonstrates our ambition to lead in the EV space and establish LiveWire as the world's most desirable electric motorcycle brand."
