Husqvarna 901 Svartpilen spotted out in the wild
The Husqvarna 901 Svartpilen gets some miles under its belt as a prototype of the new flasgship naked is spotted out on test
The Husqvarna motorcycle range is set to grow with the addition of a new flagship Svartpilen 901 model using the running gear from the sister KTM 890 Duke R.
Spotted here getting some miles under its belt, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 901 will join the 401 and 701 models as a more powerful entrant in the naked segment.
The motorcycle’s launch comes as no surprise as Husqvarna makes good use of the numerous platforms available from parent company KTM. In this case, the Svartpilen 901 will use the ‘890’ engine from the Duke R launched earlier this year.
Inside the KTM, the engine produces 121hp at 9,250rpm and 99Nm of torque at 7,750rpm, with anything similar to that on the Svartpilen representing a big leap from the 701 and its 75hp and 72Nm of torque.
Though the stripped down prototype bike doesn’t give too much away about the styling, one can expect the same modern-retro lines of the current model to stay intact.
It is one of at least two models that will utilise the KTM engine together with the Norden 901, which will in turn mark Husqvarna’s entry into the competitive ADV market. A concept version of the motorcycle made its bow at the EICMA show in Milan, with Husqvarna later confirming it will be revealed in production form ahead of a 2021 release date.
It comes as Husqvarna embarks on a global model expansion which is expected to go as far as being the Pierer Group’s (KTM, Husqvarna, GasGas) first foray into the scooter market with an all-electric offering. A prototype was spotted in company presentation that is expected to be based on the Indian-made Bajaj Chetak electric scooter on sale now.
