The Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen 401 are coming
Husqvarna confirms production of its minimal new 401s and says 701 is still a concept
HUSQVARNA used the Eicma show in Milan to reveal that its minimalistic Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen 401 will be in dealers by late autumn next year.
The Vitpilen and more rugged Svartpilen 401 will be the first models in the firm’s ‘real street’ range, and will likely be followed by the faired Aero 401 concept.
Power comes from a 375cc single-cylinder DOHC engine that makes 44hp and 27.3lb/ft torque. Husqvarna says it delivers useful acceleration at all speeds plus good manners and fuel economy. It’s equipped with a slipper clutch and the engine is housed in a steel trellis frame.
Brakes come courtesy of Bybre – with a single four-piston caliper and 320mm disc at the front and a single-piston caliper and 230mm disc at the rear.
Bump management will be handled by WP suspension.
The styling is minimal and clean. There’s an LED headlight and distinctive looking daytie running light. The colour of the bike depends on the model – the Svartpilen is black and the Vitpilen is primarily white.
Seats differ between bikes – the Vitpilen has a long single seat and the Svartpilen has two separate seats with different fabric.
The Vitpilen 401 features clip-on bars, while the Svartpilen has a single handlebar.
Tyres vary too, with the Svartpilen getting Pirelli Scorpio Rally STR rubber and the Vitpilen coming on Metzeler M5s.
Husqvarna also used the Eicma show to reveal that the larger capacity Vitpilen 701 is still the ‘next visionary step’ in its return to the street and is still a concept.
