More clues point to imminent arrival of Harley-Davidson Pan America 975

The Harley-Davidson Pan America range appears increasingly likely to expand in the imminent future as more clues emerge pointing towards a 975cc version of the adventure motorcycle being on the way.

A significant break away from Harley-Davidson’s core cruiser and tourer motorcycles, the Pan America has nonetheless proven something of a success for the Milwaukee marque, receiving positive feedback from media and patrons alike.

Currently available with the full fat 1250cc version of the firm’s new Revolution Max engine architecture, the Pan America is directly targeted at the likes of the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure and KTM 1290 Super Adventure.

However, it is in the more affordable and economical category below that the Harley-Davidson Pan America stands to find a bigger following against models like the Ducati Desert X, MV Agusta Lucky Explorer 9.5 and KTM 890 Adventure.

As a result, there have long been calls for Harley-Davidson to equip the Pan America with the adapted 975cc version of the same engine, currently available in the Nightster cruiser.

Fortunately, all signs are pointing towards this model being on the way, according to documents filed at the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration seen by Motorcycle.com.

You’ll need to look closer but a glance at new installation instructions for its ‘66 Collection Round Mirrors’ shows the model code ‘RA975’.

In case you don’t know, ‘RA’ is the internal model code Harley-Davidson uses for the Pan America, which means the version on sale is known as ‘RA1250’.

The codename RA975 is actually listed in several documents for the Pan America across several countries in Europe too, indicating the Pan America 975 not only exists but is on the way fairly soon.
