 MV Agusta announces Cagiva revival

REMEMBER Cagiva? That onetime massive motorcycle manufacturer, responsible for rescuing and reviving Ducati and Husqvarna, before its own untimely demise in the early 2010s.

Well you need reminisce no longer as MV Agusta is bringing its fellow Italian brand back, although not as we know it.

In fact, these new models are miles away from the likes of the Elefant and the Mito. These Cagivas will feature electric powertrains and an early prototype will be revealed at EICMA later this year, said MV investor Timur Sardarov, with the production units following around 12 to 14 months later.

Far removed from the premium, small batch approach that MV has fostered over the past couple of years, the Cagivas will be mass production. They will be ‘young and fun’ and, most importantly, ‘accessible’.

As for the battery and motor, they’re due to be outsourced, although Sardarov wouldn’t say who to.

“Our work spirit is a lot in design and the structure engineering and mechanics,” he commented.

“We don’t have internal capabilities to design electrical motor and the battery and its software, not at the beginning for sure.”
