Is this the new Husqvarna electric scooter?
An image purporting to be the new Husqvarna electric scooter surface online; The model is set to be built alongside a sister KTM e-scooter
Fresh from the confirmation its biggest model yet – the Norden 901 adventure tourer – is on its way, it appears Husqvarna is also now readying what will become its smallest model with an electric scooter being developed between parent company KTM and its Indian conglomerate partners, Bajaj.
Last month Visordown reported that KTM has revisited the prospect of offering scooter in its range in an effort to capitalise on the growing trend for e-scooters that are becoming increasingly popular across European markets.
By extension this means sister company Husqvarna is also set to get its own variant of the as-yet-untitled model. Unlike KTM though, the Husqvarna e-scooter appears to have already emerged in leaked images acquired by IndianAutosBlog, a reliable source of motorcycle news across Asia.
If this image is correct it reveals a handsome looking model that – in our eyes – successfully translates Husqvarna’s sharp signature styling pioneered by the Vitpilen and Svartpilen ranges into a scooter silhouette. As the image reveals, it will be offered in 4kW and 10kW designations, with the latter seemingly more likely for European markets.#
The new Husqvarna and KTM electric scooter ranges will be developed on the platform of the Bajaj Chetak, recently launched in its native India, and also built there at a facility in Pune.
Husqvarna range set to grow on back of electric surge
It has been a busy few weeks for Husqvarna having confirmed its Norden 901 concept – based on the KTM 890 Adventure - will indeed go into production for 2021, while the Swedish firm has just launched for the first time in India with its naked ranges, complete with market-specific 250 engines.
With this electric scooter also clearly in the works, Husqvarna is being placed at the heart of KTM’s plans to develop an electric motorcycle range sometime around 2022.
The endeavour is being made possible by KTM’s move to cosy up closer to Bajaj Auto – which owns a 48 per cent stake in Austrian manufacturer – and split both development and production costs in India, allowing it to become more ambitious with its electric targets.
