New Indian Sport Chief announced for 2023 launch
A new variant of the Indian Chief has been announced by Indian Motorcycle, with the new Indian Sport Chief arriving in 2023.
Indian Motorcycle has announced a new model in its Chief range to be launching later this year, with the Indian Sport Chief confirmed to be on its way.
The Indian Sport Chief is essentially exactly what you would expect from reading the name - it’s the Indian Chief, with sportier specifications.
For a start, Indian has sought out premium suspension manufacturer, KYB, to provide inverted forks at the front, and Fox for the rear shocks which extend wheel travel by 100mm over standard (these are also available as upgrades for Chief, Chief Bobber and Super Chief owners).
Additionally, Brembo has been called on to provide radially-mounted, four-piston, semi-floating callipers on dual front brake discs. “The result is an Indian Chief that begs for more aggressive riding and provides the confidence and capability to take the riding experience to another level,” Indian says in a press release.
Other additions include a new quarter fairing, “moto-style” handlebars, machined triple clamps, 152mm risers, and Night Dragon tyres from Pirelli.
There is also a 15.1-litre fuel tank, LED lighting, keyless start, and three selectable riding modes: “Sport”, “Standard” and “Tour”.
Behind the performance-focused additions lies the familiar base of the Indian Chief, meaning 162Nm of torque from the twin-cylinder Thunderstroke 116 motor and a steel tubular frame.
There is also scope to customise your Indian Sport Chief as you like, with accessories available to suit a number of requirements.
From the ‘performance’ selection, the standard Fox rear shocks can be swapped out for fully-adjustable alternatives from the same brand, which come with 24-click twist-knobs to adjust both compression and rebound damping. In this selection there is also the 146mm Chief Pathfinder Adaptive LED Headlight, available in either chrome or black.
New 254 mm Moto Handlebar Risers are available from the ‘style’ selection of accessories, as well as two windscreen options (Low, and Tall) and a variety of luggage bags.
Riders can also add “Extended Reach” or “Reduced Reach” seats from the ‘comfort’ accessories selection to suit their individual requirements, and the “Chief Syndicate Seat” and “Syndicate Low Profile Passenger Backrest” are available to support two-up riding.
The Indian Sport Chief is available in the following colours: “Black Smoke”, “Ruby Smoke”, and “Stealth Grey”.
UK pricing for the 2023 Indian Sport Chief is as follows:
- "Black Smoke" colour - £19,995
- "Ruby Smoke" and "Stealth Grey" colours - £20,495
“Since launching in 2021, the reimagined Indian Chief has garnered incredible feedback from riders all around the world,” said Mike Dougherty, President of Indian Motorcycle. “With the introduction of Sport Chief, the 2023 Indian Chief lineup is more diverse than ever – offering a wide range of performance and styling options to meet each rider’s unique personality and riding preferences.”
