New styling and electronics for 2024 Honda CBR500R
Updated styling and a new electronics package headline the novelties of the twin-cylinder 2024 Honda CBR500R middleweight sports bike
The Honda CBR500R is a part of one of the best examples of Honda’s modular design philosophy. Its 471cc parallel twin is used not only in itself, but also in the Honda CL500 scrambler, CMX500 Rebel cruiser, new-for-2024 CB500 Hornet, and the CB500X (which is now the Honda NX500).
For 2024, the styling is updated with inspiration drawn from the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, itself updated for 2024, while the biggest technical changes concern the electronics.
An ECU update means the CBR500R now makes use of HSTC as standard, and new settings for the fuel injection enhance low-down acceleration. A slipper clutch aids with shifting, especially on the way down of course, and the LED headlights are all-new for this year.
Engine performance is unchanged from previous years, with an A2-compliant 47bhp and 32lb ft, while Showa provides its SFF-BP front fork and the rear shock. Stopping power is provided by dual 296mm front discs with four-piston radial callipers and a single 240mm rear disc with single-piston calliper. Two-channel ABS also features.
Colours are unchanged from last year with ‘Grand Prix Red Tricolour’ and ‘Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic’, and the price is set at £6,699. Availability is expected from early 2024.
