Roland Sands Makes A Hero Out of the Hooligan With Special Edition Indian FTR
Indian has partnered with Roland Sands for a new special edition of its FTR naked bike, the Indian FTR Hooligan - named after the series it races in
A new special edition of the Indian FTR has been revealed, as the American manufacturer collaborates with former racer and design legend Roland Sands.
The new Indian FTR x RSD Super Hooligan is based on the Indian FTR R Carbon, which entered Indian’s performance naked range when it was refreshed in 2023. It means the new Hooligan features a 1,203cc twin-cylinder engine producing 120bhp and 87lb ft. There’s also fully-adjustable Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes (dual 320mm discs with four-piston callipers at the front, and a 260mm disc with two-piston callipers at the rear).
As you might expect from a collaboration with a design company (Roland Sands Designs), the Hooligan edition is more or less a visual update on the standard FTR R Carbon.
The changes amount to a paint job based on that run by the factory Indian team in the MotoAmerica Super Hooligan class, which has been won by Indian’s Tyler O’Hara in each of the past two seasons.
Essentially a replica of the factory race bike livery, the Hooligan edition applies to the FTR a mostly black paint job with a white section on the side of the tank, onto which the Indian logo is applied. The frame is then painted in the famous Indian Motorcycle Red colour, which it shares with the wheels. Owners will also be supplied with additional graphics kits which they can apply as they choose to the radiator shroud, front mudguard, and front fork.
300 Indian FTR x RSD Super Hooligans will be built, and only 150 will be sold outside the US. In the UK, the Indian FTR x RSD Super Hooligan is priced at £18,395.
Aaron Jax, Indian Motorcycle Vice President, said: “The term ‘hooligan’ has taken on an entirely new meaning in the world of motorcycles, characterised by a rebellious, fearless attitude that places having fun on a motorcycle above all else, and that’s what this new FTR is all about.
“Roland Sands has blazed this trail and built the RSD brand around the hooligan lifestyle. From spinning laps on dirt ovals on mid-size cruisers, to today’s competitive racing within the MotoAmerica series, the ethos of hooligan riding has not changed.”
Roland Sands, Founder of RSD, added: “Super Hooligan has always been about more than just racing. It’s about pushing boundaries and having a blast riding motorcycles with your friends.
“Far from the full fairing machines you normally see on the racetrack, a Super Hooligan bike has effortless attitude and a custom aesthetic with an exposed powertrain. When Indian Motorcycle approached us to codesign an Indian FTR for consumers, it was a natural fit, and something we were very excited to be a part of.”
