The Royal Enfield Himalayan adventure motorcycle has gained a host of useful updates for off-road riders

THE latest version of the successful Royal Enfield Himalayan has been announced with a new cleaner engine and specific riding modes for those who want to hit the trails.

The bike has been announced to comply with the latest BS6 emissions standards – a bit like our Euro 5 – and features a few updates over the current model.

First off, the new engine is now conforming to the newest and most stringent raft of emissions regulations, although that does come at the slight expense of some top-end power. The new bike will lose out by around .2bhp to the old one – no great loss there – whole the peak torque figure remains unchanged. The bike also gains a little bit of weight, going up from 194kg to 199kg in its ready to run state.

On update that will interest the more adventure inclined amongst us is the addition of a new riding mode, specifically designed for off-road riding. The new mode allows the rider to disable the ABS to the rear wheel, making manoeuvring the bike on gravel and dirt a much easier thing to do – previously the ABS would have cut in preventing the rider from skidding or sliding the rear wheel on the brakes.

Alongside the technical changes, the Himalayan also gets a load of funky new two-tone paint schemes, including the striking blue and white and red and black examples we saw at EICMA last November.

The new version is set to land this autumn, so as long as the global COVID-19 situation is under control by then, we look forward to swinging a leg over the newest version of the bike.
