Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 spied as development ramps up
The latest model in Royal Enfield new motorcycle blitz breaks cover as the Shotgun 650 - the production version of the SG650 concept - nears launch
The all-new Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 has been spotted out in the wild for the first time since it was previewed at EICMA as a show-stopping concept.
The Shotgun represents what will become the fourth model to be developed on the 648cc twin-cylinder ‘650’ platform that already powers the popular Royal Enfield Interceptor and Continental GT machines.
A third model, the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 cruiser, is expected to be unveiled this summer before going on sale later in the year.
It is then set to be followed by a bobber version under the name of Shotgun, a moniker previewed by the dazzling concept preview that was named SG650.
In spy shots published by Zig Wheels, a quick glance at the grainy photo suggests there hasn’t been too much tinkering to its svelte lines with headlights and side panels all set to be carried over from the concept.
Depending on your preferences, the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 will be a more stylish option compared to its three siblings with its bluff-rear and low-slung seating position.
Under the skin will be something rather more familiar with the Shotgun set to match its family member’s 47bhp at 7,250rpm and 35Ib-ft of torque at 5,250rpm. It should therefore also be available to purchase with an A2 licence.
The Shotgun 650 comes as part of a new model blitz that has already seen the Scram 411 launched this year, to be followed shortly by the new Hunter 350 and Super Meteor 650, plus potentially a new harder-core version of the Himalayan to be known as the Rally.
