BMW R 1300 GS The Complete Story looks at the latest version of the adventure bike, as well as the history of the boxer GS models
The BMW GS story begins in 1980, when the first of the breed was presented to the world. Standing for Gelände Straße (where Gelände means terrain, Straße means road), the first machine was a bit of a standalone model on the global stage, being that it was a large-capacity bike, with on and off-road ambitions. The genesis of the adventure motorcycle sector, if you will.
Fast forward to today and the GS brand has grown exponentially, with the latest R1300 GS looking to continue the legacy of all the bikes that went before it. It’s a story that is told in detail in the latest book from esteemed motorcycle journalist, author, and contributor to Visordown, Phil West.
It charts the full story of the GS, including the history of the GS boxer family, going on to outline how the latest version of the bike came to be. BMW R1300 GS The Complete Story includes technical know-how from some of the designers who helped to create the bike and delves behind the scenes at the BMW factory with insight from BMW Head of Design Edgar Heinrich.
Speaking about the new book, Phil said:
"The R1300 GS is a hugely significant bike that’s been seven years in the making and is a huge story that only a dedicated book could do justice to."
The book spans 128 pages and comes in medium format, with full-colour pictures and in paperback only.
The first 250 copies with also be numbered and signed by the author.
