Road racing legend Michael Dunlop will make a return short circuit racing for the upcoming British Supersport Championship round at Silverstone with Dynavolt Triumph.

Nephew of the late great Joey Dunlop, Michael has amassed 19 victories on the Isle of Man TT but is no stranger to short track action, particularly at the moment as the road racing calendar has been decimated by the onset of the coronavirus.

Dunlop will return to track on the Dynavolt Triumph riding a faired version of the Street Triple using a 765cc engine in place of American Brandon Paasch, who is undergoing surgery on his fractured wrist.

“It is really good news to be riding the Dynavolt Triumph at Silverstone.  I’ve been watching the bike as it’s progressed this year and the team seem to have done a great job.  As a lot of people know I’ve had success with PTR (Performance Technical Racing) and it will be great to be working with Simon and the boys again.  It’s a good opportunity, I’m looking forward to it.  Let’s see what we can do, it will be great to see everyone there.”

Dynavolt Triumph Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “We’ve a good working relationship with Michael, he’s got good feel for a bike and he’s a good Supersport rider.  He’s really looking forward to it and so am I.  It will be great working with him again; we’ve really enjoyed it in the past.  Let’s see if we can’t surprise a few people.

The Triumph project is seen as a litmus test for a new breed of models that will be eligible to compete in the WorldSSP Championship next season, together with the Ducati V2 and MV Agusta F3 800.
