Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales sign with Suzuki for 2015
Suzuki will re-enter the MotoGP Championship with their newly developed GSX-RR
SUZUKI have announced that current MotoGP rider Aleix Espargaro and Moto2 rider Maverick Vinales will become team-mates in the 2015 MotoGP season on-board the GSX-RR machine.
Since 2012, Suzuki have been developing their machine so they can re-join the MotoGP Championship. Although this has taken some time, with the team structure prepared and the developed machine at a hopeful competitive level they are ready to participate with their new GSX-RR machine and two talented, young riders.
An excited Espargaro tweeted: "Really happy to announce that I will race with Suzuki next year!! Really motivated on this new adventure!!"
Meanwhile Vinales simply tweeted: "My dream it's true, next year MOTOGP!"
The specifications of the newly developed GSX-RR include an in-line four-cylinder engine helping with fuel efficiency as well as durability at a high level. The frame has been designed to account for aerodynamics and maneuverability which means keeping the width slim. This instead optimizes body strength and weight balance.
Suzuki have issued this basic specification:
Overall length x width x height: 2,096mm x 720mm x 1,140mm.
Wheelbase: 1,457mm.
Body weight: 160kg (based on FIM regulation).
Engine type: Water-cooled, four-stroke in-line four-cylinder, DOHC four-valve.
Displacement: 1,000cm3.
Maximum output: Over 169kw (230PS).
Frame type: Twin-spar aluminum.
Tyres (front/rear): 16.5in/16.5in.
Front suspension: Ohlins, inverted fork.
Rear suspension: Ohlins.
Brakes (front/rear): Carbon disk/steel disk, Brembo.
Davide Brivio is the current test team manager and will become the overall team manager when Espargaro and Vinales take to the track.
It has also been announced that Suzuki will be a wildcard at the final round of the season in Valencia.
