HONDA have confirmed today (29 March 2022) that Marc Marquez will miss this weekend’s upcoming Argentinian Grand Prix.

Marquez was confirmed to be suffering with a new episode of diplopia after his return to Spain following the Indonesian Grand Prix.

The eight-times World Champion was forced to miss the race in Indonesia having fallen heavily in warm up, which resulted initially in a hospital trip. The Spaniard was then declared unfit, and he was forced to miss the race.

On the flight home to Spain, Marquez says he felt discomfort in his vision, and following a trip to the hospital in his native Spain, a new episode of diplopia was confirmed.

Now, Honda have confirmed that Marquez will be absent from this weekend’s Argentinian Grand Prix.

In a press release, the Repsol Honda Team says Marquez “has already shown very favourable improvements with his diplopia after visiting the Hospital Clínic and an examination from Dr. Sánchez Dalmau.”

The statement continues to say that in the latest examination Marquez has undergone - carried out yesterday (Monday 28 March) - Marquez’ “diplopia shows a notable improvement and reaffirms that the progression of his vision is very favourable.” Marquez, Honda says, will continue to undergo regular assessments of his vision in conjunction with “a conservative treatment regime.”

Marquez’ ophthalmologist, Dr. Sánchez Dalmau, said, “The second neuro-ophthalmological evaluation carried out on Marc Marquez this past Monday has shown a very favourable evolution in the paralysis of the fourth right nerve affected by the fall that occurred at the Indonesian Grand Prix. Recovery is not yet complete, and Marc Marquez must follow the established therapeutic regime with conservative treatment.”

It is still unclear how long Marquez will be out of action for, and with the Grand Prix of the Americas at the Circuit of the Americas taking place just a week after the Argentinian Grand Prix, it currently also seems doubtful that the #93 will race in the US this year.
