Quartararo seeking 'clean weekend'

Five races into his MotoGP career and there is no doubting rookie Fabio Quartararo's raw speed.

The Petronas Yamaha SRT rider has already claimed a pole position at Jerez, topped a day of official testing in Spain and set the fastest race lap in Qatar and last time at Le Mans.

However, his best race result remains seventh place in Austin - after stalling on the grid in Qatar, suffering a technical failure at Jerez and sinking to 15th on the opening lap in France.

As such, Quartararo is unsurprisingly targeting a 'clean weekend' at Mugello, a circuit where his best result is a fifth place in the 2016 Moto3 race.

"Mugello is one of the most difficult circuits on the calendar but I’m still pushing for a strong performance," said Quartararo, who recovered to eighth at Le Mans.

"In France, I had a great fight back through the field and the fastest lap showed the pace we can have.

"For Mugello, I want to be further up the order on the grid and make a better start. If I can do that – and show the same race pace we had in Le Mans – it should be a happy race!

"If we put together a clean weekend from Friday to Sunday, we can get a good result, as our potential has shown at recent races."

Quartararo currently holds twelfth in the world championship standings, but has a 16 point lead over Francesco Bagnaia (Pramac Ducati) in the fight to be top rookie.
