Triumph has announced it will be involved in a new sustainable fuels testing programme as part of its Moto2 racing project.

Triumph will work in partnership with MotoGP commercial rights holder Dorna Sports on the new sustainable fuels project, which will aim to have E40 (40% non-fossil) fuel in Moto2 competition by 2024, and E100 (100% non-fossil) by 2027.

The new testing programme is centred at Triumph’s Hinckley base, and is focused on bringing the lesser-fossil fuel to a performance level which is comparable with standard fossil fuels.

Alongside its TE-1 electric prototype, Triumph says “this sustainable fuels development programme further underlines Triumph’s focus on ensuring that motorcycling can continue to be enjoyed responsibly by riders and fans for many years to come.”

Steve Sargent, Triumph Chief Product Officer said: “Ultimately, our aim is always to take all the learnings we gain from racing to make our road bikes even better, which of course encompasses not just performance but also their impact on the environment.

“I can tell you that everybody here at Triumph is very excited to be involved in such significant developments at such a pivotal moment in motorcycle history.”

The announcement from Triumph comes just over one month after Repsol were in Jarama to test renewable fuels with Honda MotoGP rider Marc Marquez, preparing for the E40 standard that will be required in MotoGP in 2024. The same Spanish oil company also recently completed a test of renewable fuels with the Honda trial team of Toni Bou and Gabriel Marcelli.
