World’s Fastest Red Bull Drone Gives Best Ever View of Motorcycle Racing
A new drone from Red Bull is capable of flying at over 200mph, and can give better-than-ever views of motorcycle racing
Red Bull has debuted a new drone that is capable of giving some of the best views of motorcycle racing we’ve ever seen.
Unleashed at the recent Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup test at the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto - which this weekend is hosting the Spanish Grand Prix - the new drone is capable of reaching 300kph (186mph) in four seconds, and is being touted as the fastest drone on the planet.
At the test, the drone proved it could keep up with the Red Bull Rookies riders for a full lap of the Spanish circuit, something worthy of note in itself since not only reaching such a speed but also maintaining it for a full 1:50-ish lap time is typically unthinkable for a camera drone.
Flat out, the drone can reach 350kph, or 217mph, according to Red Bull, meaning it could keep up with MotoGP bikes at most circuits.
The footage captured by the drone from the test is exceptional because it gives a much greater sense of speed than a trackside camera is able to, or an on-board camera for that matter.
The only real downside is that the movement of the drone around the bikes reduces the sense of motion of the bikes in the shot so you can’t always see from the drone how one bike is sliding towards another, for example. This isn’t a huge deal, though, since the trackside and on-board cameras leave little to be desired in terms of understanding how the bikes are moving towards and away from each other in a battle. The whole point of this camera is the aforementioned sense of speed, an objective the video posted to Instagram by Red Bull shows the drone has achieved.
