Scott Redding collected his first pole position of the 2021 WorldSBK Championship season after getting the better of Toprak Razgatlioglu in  Superpole for the penultimate round of the season in Argentina.

The Briton trailed championship leader Razgatlioglu in all three practice sessions around the San Juan Villicum circuit but got the better of the Turk when it mattered in Superpole to land his and Ducati’s first pole position of the season, plus his second in WorldSBK outright.

It puts him in the heart of the simmering WorldSBK title fight, a tussle that leaned further into Razgatlioglu’s favour with a front row starting slot on the Pata Yamaha, while Jonathan Rea - who has been on the back foot this weekend following a crash in FP2 - could only manage a third row spot in fifth place.

Scoring the best qualifying result of his rookie season, Axel Bassani was an impressive third quickest on the privateer Motocorsa Ducati, the Italian sharing the second row with top Kawasaki rider Alex Lowes.

Rea has Andrea Locatelli for company on row three, the Italian landing sixth fastest on the second of the factory Yamahas, ahead of Michael van der Mark on the best of the BMWs, Garrett Gerloff on the GRT Yamaha. Michael Ruben Rinaldi and top Honda rider Leon Haslam round out the top ten.

Elsewhere, Chaz Davies starts the Race 1 for what will be the penultimate event of his racing career from 13th place, ahead of local favourite Leandro Mercado in 14th, the home hero doing out-qualifying Alvaro Bautista on the factory Honda despite a crash at Turn 2 late on.
