Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Goes Wild After Receiving Turbocharger
This Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 goes 2.8 seconds faster in 40-to-80mph run after turbocharger transformation
Full of class and style, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is a bike that provides a lot for a very affordable price. The Mark 2 edition is the highest priced in the UK at £6,899, while other colourways drop the price to £6,599 and £6,399, respectively. The amount of bike-for-money is one of its major selling points and was something we highlighted in our review of the bike when spending a portion of the year with it in 2022.
A bike that’s a favourite for commuting in the city with, raw speed is not one of the adjectives you would use to best describe the Interceptor 650. However, don’t let it fool you, this bike still oozes fun, and like most motorcycles, has an element of wild child to it especially when customised. How do we know that? Well, American YouTuber DoctorMotorcycle stuck a turbocharger in his Interceptor 650 and the thing loved it.
What’s good about this transformation video is that the bike is immediately test ridden with a purpose, which is to provide a clear idea of how quickly the bike can go from 40mph to 80mph. After being less than impressed by his shakedown run which sees him go from 40mph to 80 in 7.1 seconds, work begins on installing the turbocharger.
After welding some parts for his turbocharger together, the American fitted the Turbo to his Interceptor 650 but not before removing parts of the bike’s frame and rear seat in order to rewire the bike with the added turbo. The step-by-step process continued before the bike was eventually rebuilt and ready to perform a test run.
When the bike was fired up, the sound it made was something to behold as the exhaust provided this lovely crackling sound. Now to the result, the Interceptor 650, fully charged with its new turbo, achieved the 40 to 80mph pull in just 4.3 seconds, shaving off 2.8 seconds from standard.
