Supersport Rider Makes Miraculous Heart-in-Mouth Save
Adrian Huertas has pulled off one of the greatest ‘saves’ in motorcycle racing history at Magny-Cours
World Supersport racer Adrian Huertas nearly suffered a monster highside before somehow managing to stay aboard his Ducati Panigale V2 at the French round in Magny-Cours, despite smashing through an advertising billboard and running into the side fence.
Not to be mistaken for a rider attempting to carry DIY products back from the store on his motorcycle, Huertas was covered in debris from hitting the billboard and side fence, but the Spaniard, who will leave World Supersport for Moto2 in 2025, somehow avoided a huge crash.
Huertas saw his Panigale V2 snap out of control while heading towards turn seven in wet conditions, as he was nearly launched over the top. Even scarier was the fact the rear snapped out on Huertas while at full throttle with a small amount of lean angle.
As a result, it nearly threw him off the bike as he ran onto the grass. Huertas’s issues were far from over though as he then slammed into the sponsored billboard before hitting the barrier on the outside of the circuit. As if that wasn’t enough, Huertas then had to show off his motocross skills by running across the gravel.
Huertas bounced back from his insane save to finish third in the final race of the weekend, which was won by title rival Yari Montella. Only 14 points separate Huertas and Montella with four rounds to go (eight races).
The world championship leader was not the only rider involved in a dramatic incident over the course of the weekend as two riders were involved in a scuffle while in the gravel trap. French riders Lucas Mahias and Valentin Debise were involved in a crash at the penultimate corner before Mahias shoved Debise over when he was trying to get back underway. No further action was taken by the race stewards.
