Watch Pol Tarres Absolutely Send it up Hillclimb on His Tenere 700
The Andorran made history last week, by taking his Tenere 700 across the finish line in the gruelling Red Bull Romaniacs event
Pol Tarres has gone and done it again, by taking his rally-spec Yamaha Tenere 700 across the finish line in the unbelievably hardcore Red Bull Romaniacs off-road event.
He’s no stranger to taking his Tenere to new heights (quite literally setting an altitude record earlier this year), but his latest entry, in the Red Bull Romaniacs, might be his most impressive achievement to date.
The Dakar Rally is, rightfully, named the most gruelling off-road race on the planet. It’s long, travels through the most inhospitable terrain, and forces the rider/driver to plot their own course through a mostly lunar landscape. While the Red Bull Romaniacs doesn’t have many of those features, the terrain is just as extreme, as the video below shows, occasionally much more so.
Putting Tarres’ achievements into perspective; he managed a placed finish in the Silver category of the event, meaning his Tenere 700 was racing against, and beating in a lot of cases, much smaller, lighter and more focused off-road bikes. After 26 hours, and 53 minutes of racing, Pol managed to cross the finish line in a highly respectable 60th place, six hours and 50 minutes off the leading bike of Kornel Ott. 60th place doesn’t sound too impressive, although when you take into account he was 60th out of 114 finishers, most of whom were riding 250 and 300cc KTMs, Husqvarnas, and Yamahas, it starts to look a little bit more special.
In the video above you can see Tarres needing a couple of bites at the hill climb, after seeming to lose momentum on his first run and dropping his bike. Unperturbed, he dutifully makes his way back to the bottom of the hill, gets back in the groove and sends it once again, with pretty spectacular results!
