Suzuki GSX-S1000GT [2022] | Walkaround and First Impressions
We get our hands on the refreshed, restyled and rebranded Suzuki GSX-S1000 GT to get our first impressions of the firm's latest Sports Tourer weapon
The Suzuki GSX-S1000 GT has landed in our (very wet and cold) gloved hands so of course the first thing we have done is bring you our first impressions of the Japanese firm’s renewed Sports Tourer contender, because we’re always thinking of you!
Hot on the heels of the Suzuki Hayabusa, restyled Suzuki GSX-S1000 and new Suzuki GSX-S950, the GSX-S1000 GT is the fourth new arrival from the Hamamatsu marque in 2021, succeeding the GSX-S1000 F.
While this isn’t a fresh-from-the-ground-up replacement, the GSX-S1000 GT is more than a mere rebrand.
Indeed, while the GSX-S1000 F found both favour and detractors for leaning closer than most to being a half-faired sportsbike rather than an out-and-out tourer, Suzuki has re-positioned the GSX-S1000 GT more firmly in the latter category, while not entirely abandoning the ‘Sports’ element of its brief.
It has also taken the opportunity to give it a complete redesign with reprofiled bodywork, most notably the more aggressive front-end and fairing that - as a few have pointed out - certainly appears to have eyed Yamaha for inspiration.
Regardless, the design doesn’t serve as mere form with improved aerodynamics and more efficient packaging designed to give the GSX-S1000 GT greater refinement, comfort and practicality than its predecessor.
It may also detract from underpinnings that are otherwise older than many of the rivals around it, primarily the class and sales chart leading Yamaha Tracer 9 GT and Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX, but that’s for us to find out.
