The Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin launch is looming and I’m in desperate need of some serious off-road focus boots. After a quick scan online, the Sidi Crossfire 2 SRS boots fit the bill perfectly. A tried, tested and trusted pair of off-road kicks.

What drew me to the Crossfire 2 boot was that it still had a sporty aesthetic, and therefore could be used for both motocross and adventure rides.

The unisex Crossfire 2 SRS is available is a bunch of colour variations and all of them have an RRP of £419.99 (this varies depending on the store).

Construction

On the outside, the boots are made from a mixture of leather and technomicro. On the inside there’s a comforting and purposeful Cambrelle and ari-mesh Teflon - which is great for moisture-wicking and climate control, even chucking around a big ol’ Africa twin in the beaming Sardinian sun my feet felt perfectly comfortable.

What I liked most about the Crossfire 2’s construction was how most components are replaceable. From the shin protection right the way down to the sole, everything can be swapped out to make to boot look good as new. These things are built to last.

Protection

I cracking amount of protection is offered by the Crossfire 2’s, here’s a rundown of exactly what:

  • Replaceable shin plate

  • Toe area covered with a plastics reinforcement

  • Rigid, shock resistant, anatomically shaped heel

  • Replaceable metatarsus inserts

In essence, the X-Fire 2 is comfortable foot armour, but they feel perfectly natural. And, with the number of straps and clips, this comes as no surprise.

Comfort

The combination of the dual flex system - which essentially a soft internal boot within the protective exoskeleton -  and the adjustable ratchet clips, makes the Crossfire 2 SRS feel great. Granted like most boots they need a little bit of bedding in, but this is to be expected for any durable MX/adventure boot.

The easiest way to do this was to walk around the house [looking like a bit of an idiot] in order to stretch them out naturally. Following that, a couple of rides around the block made them feel perfect.

Fastening

Internally the dual flex system is velcro, which is good for getting a snug fit, and externally there are a gazillion adjustable clips. I had my doubts at first, but the clips (adjustable to the mm) are extremely strong and all in the right locations. Making for a snug and tailored feel.

Sidi Crossfire 2 SRS verdict

If you’re looking to do some weekend warrior off-road riding then the Crossfire 2 SRS would make a great boot. It’s quick to break in, fully adjustable and offers a boatload of protection - handy if you’re as crap as me offroad…

For the Pros out there - punishing their kit to the limit - this boot is a fine option, as everything from the armour to the sole is replaceable.
