Yamaha to celebrate 25-years of the R1 this July at Mugello
The 25th anniversary of the R1 will take place at the YRE at Mugello and both R1 and R1M owners are welcome
YAMAHA is set to blow out the candles on a very large birthday cake later this summer, as it celebrates the 25th anniversary of the iconic R1.
Launched in 1998, the original R1 burst onto the sportbike scene with a bad-boy image and riding dynamics to match. What has followed in the last 25 years are championship and Isle of Man TT wins and the forming of a legion of fans.
To honour this, Yamaha is putting on a celebration of all things R1 at the YRE (Yamaha Racetrack Experience) on the 21st and 22nd of July at the stunning Mugello circuit in Tuscany. The YRE events are normally aimed at R1M owners exclusively, although as this is such a big birthday for the brand, this event will allow owners of the stock R1 to attend also.
There are 25 up for grabs which R1 owners can enjoy for the whole two days, which includes track sessions on both days and the ability to get advice from Yamaha racing technicians to help set up their bikes. There are also exclusive tours of the Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK pit box, along with a host of other activities.
There is also an option for R1 owners to attend just on Saturday, where they can register for up to two track sessions for free and still enjoy the event atmosphere, and go behind the scenes in the Yamaha WorldSBK garage.
The on-track sessions will be a big draw for WorldSBK fans, as it gives them a chance to ride alongside the Japanese brand’s star riders, Andrea Locatelli and the BMW-bound Toprak Razgatlıoğlu. In attendance on the day will also be Remy Gardner, Dominique Aegerter, Lorenzo Baldassari, Bradley Ray, plus YART Yamaha Official EWC star (and YouTube sensation, Niccolò Canepa.
More information on the two-day event can be found on the official page.
