Cake has announced the launch of its latest platform, the Aik, which is a utility-based electric bike

The new Cake Aik platform joins the Osa, Makka, and Kalk in the Swedish manufacturer’s ‘work’ family of bikes, and can carry up to 200kg of cargo in its front and rear storage boxes.

Additionally, the Aik shares with the Osa a modular aluminium frame, allowing its owner to fit the “right types of racks, bags, trailers, baskets, passenger seats, and more to suit the job at hand,” Cake says.

Perhaps the biggest selling point of the Aik, and what makes it stand apart from the Osa, is that it does not require a licence to ride. The Aik “blurs the lines between lightweight electric motorcycle and utility e-bike,” Cake says.

The electric motor powering the Aik has a nominal output of 0.25kW and 100Nm taking the bike to a top speed of 16mph, while one of its batteries has a capacity of 0.75kWh. One battery will keep the Aik going for 74.5 miles, but three can be used together at once in order to have a range of 224 miles.

Cake founder and CEO, Stefan Ytterborn, said: “With Åik joining the :work series lineup, we’re now offering a complete assortment of electric two-wheeled solutions for any business in need of a transportation solution. Our range is optimised for artisanal needs, from the fastest deliveries in town through to surveillance work in the backcountry.”

As ever with Cake, the Aik takes its name from the ‘Gutniska’ language of the Gotland island. In this language, ‘aik’ means ‘big and heavy load’, according to Cake.

The Cake Aik is available from €6,470, or £5,500. Find out more at: ridecake.com
