GASGAS to offer street-legal KTM-based Supermoto, Enduro models
Documents reveal the first street-legal motorcycles to come from Pierer-owned GASGAS will be its versions of the KTM 690 SMC R and Enduro R
A supermoto and enduro will become the first street-legal models to be made available by GASGAS in the first major shake up for the company since its takeover by the Pierer Group in 2019.
The Spanish company - famed for its trials and motocross bikes - came under the Pierer Group three years ago to join stablemates KTM and Husqvarna with the broader promise to branch out into offering street-legal models.
According to documents purporting to show vehicle identification numbers, the model names GG ES 700 and GG SM 700 have surfaced, with them noted as being street-legal..
These would suggest the models will be GASGAS-branded versions of the KTM 690 SMC R and KTM 690 Enduro R. It is a line that already influences range offerings by Husqvarna in the 701 Supermoto and Enduro.
Under the skin will be a familiar 693cc single-cylinder engine producing 74hp and 50 Ib-ft of torque, plus steel trellis frame and rear-mounted fuel tank. The SMC R and Enduro R are identified apart by their differing WP suspension, wheels and braking systems.
GASGAS’ move into street-legal models has been anticipated for some time and is expected to spin out further into more practical motorcycles, including its version of the KTM Adventure.
It comes as GASGAS’ global profile soars beyond its natural trials and MX-based habitat following its historic triumph in the 2022 Dakar Rally with Sam Sunderland, plus a race-winning turn in the Moto3 World Championship and launch of a new Moto2 outfit for this season.
