Jake Dixon will remain in Moto2 for a seventh consecutive season in 2025 after agreeing to join Elf Marc VDS. The British rider was victorious in his home race at Silverstone earlier this month, but after three years with Aspar, the ex-BSB rider is now switching to one of the most famous and successful teams in the intermediate class.

That said, Marc VDS has struggled in recent years to remain consistent race winners, with Tony Arbolino struggling for much of last season, and again in 2024. However, Dixon’s arrival will provide a big boost as he’s currently one of the most in-form riders in the championship.

What this move could also do for Dixon is provide him with a route into World Superbike in the future. At the end of last season Marc VDS confirmed it would be opening a project in World Superbike, which led to former Moto2 rider Sam Lowes moving across with the team. The move, in large, has paid off although Lowes is still to record a podium finish.

Dixon is no longer expected to be a contender to join MotoGP going forward, thus a switch to the Superbike paddock could be on the cards if he performs well next season and beyond.

“Firstly, I want to say a huge thanks to Marc for giving me the opportunity to ride for such a fantastic team,” said Dixon. “They have been at the top in Moto2 for such a long time and won three titles and all I can say is it’s an absolute pleasure to be joining Marc VDS Racing next season.

“I feel I am ready for a new challenge and a new adventure and moving to this team gives me so much motivation. I really can’t wait to get started next year and look forward to bringing more success to the team.”

Changing from Kalex to the Boscoscuro chassis in 2025, which is also dominating 2024, team owner Marc Van Der Straten believes the arrival of Dixon could make a big impact. He said: “I am personally very happy with the arrival of Jake Dixon to our team. He is a fighter on and off the track and I love that. The 2025 season will be very important for us as we face the exciting challenge of competing with the Boscoscuro chassis.

“We need someone who is fast and able to quickly adapt to changes and Jake has these characteristics. I’m looking forward to seeing him fighting at the front and defending the VDS colours.”
