BSB Cadwell Park Race 1 Results | Peter Hickman wins first BSB race since 2017
Peter Hickman is back on top of the British Superbike Championship (BSB) podium four years after his last victory; Maiden success for FHO Racing BMW
Peter Hickman notched up his first British Superbike Championship (BSB) in four years as he collected FHO Racing’s maiden victory in the series on home soil at Cadwell Park.
The Isle of Man TT lap record holder demonstrated his experience as he picked his way to the front around the undulating Louth circuit, passing Glenn Irwin for the lead after a mistake from the Honda rider coming out of the Hairpin.
Despite a late advance by Jason O’Halloran from second after demoting pole sitter Irwin further, Hickman remained in control to the chequered flag, the Burton-upon-Trent rider delighting the local fans with his first win since Thruxton 2017 on the BMW M 1000 RR.
As well as marking his fifth BSB victory in what has been a lengthy career in the Superbike class stretching right back to 2006, his win is the first trip to the top step for FHO Racing since its debut this at the top of the season.
O’Halloran furthered his advantage at the head of the BSB standings, adding another two podium credits to a swelling tally that now stands at 48 points.
Tommy Bridewell maintained a good run of form to fill the final podium spot, denying Irwin down to fourth as his tyres faded.
Christian Iddon recovered ground from ninth on the grid to end the race inside the top five, from FS-3 Kawasaki’s Lee Jackson, Andrew Irwin on the Synetiq BMW and Ryan Vickers.
However, there was drama for Tarran Mackenzie after the title contender dropped his McAMS Yamaha onto the grass on the entry of Barn, flinging him into a violent looking high-side that sent the R1 over the tyre barriers. A clearly shaken Mackenzie was able to walk away from the crash, fortunately.
