Jason O’Halloran has seen his once healthy British Superbike Championship (BSB) lead almost wiped out by Tarran Mackenzie after the Australian crashed while leading race one at Oulton Park.

Dominant force O’Halloran had looked to start the nine-race shootout for the title in good stead after hitting the front, only to crash out soon afterwards, with McAMS Yamaha team-mate taking full advantage.

An 11-time race winner this season, O’Halloran had ended the first phase of the championship with a three-figure lead, but this was whittled down to just 30 points from Mackenzie with points equalised and podium credits tacked on.

This is now down to just five points after Mackenzie made the most of the rare error from his fellow R1 rider, O’Halloran slipping off at Knickerbrook on Lap 12.

From here, Mackenzie found himself in a dual with a resurgent Josh Brookes, who having just sneaked into the Title Showdown reckoning, made the most of his renewed opportunity to lead for much of the race from pole positon. However, Mackenzie saved his best until last with a pass at Hizzy’s on the last lap.

Christian Iddon gave his title hopes a boost too with a run to third on the second VisionTrack Ducati, holding off Lee Jackson and another title contender Peter Hickman.

Tommy Bridewell soared up the order to finish sixth from 15th on the grid, ahead of Danny Buchan, the Synetiq BMW rider impressing with his own charge after getting caught up in a lap one fall for Ryan Vickers. Glenn Irwin, Bradley Ray and Storm Stacey rounded out the top ten.
