MSVR provides an update on BSB rider Brad Jones after his crash and airlift transfer to hospital, revealing he has serious head, chest and pelvic injuries
Brad Jones has been placed in an induced coma following his serious accident during the opening British Superbike Championship (BSB) race of the weekend at Brands Hatch.
The iForce Lloyd & Jones BMW rider crashed on the final bend at Clark Curve on lap two of the original start. The impact knocked the 23-year old unconscious, necessitating a careful transfer by helicopter to Kings College Hospital that took almost one hour.
Twelve hours after the accident, BSB organisers MSVR have provided an update on his condition, revealing he suffered serious head, chest and pelvic injuries, plus an impact to his head that will keep him in an induced coma for the next 24/48 hours.
“Brad Jones (iForce Lloyd & Jones BMW) crashed on the opening lap of the first Bennetts British Superbike Championship race at Brands Hatch yesterday (Saturday 24 July).
“The race was immediately red flagged, and he was attended to by trackside and vehicle medical teams.
“The rider was unconscious at the scene and transferred to the circuit medical centre for further treatment. He was then evacuated by helicopter to Kings College Hospital, London.
“He will remain in an induced coma for 24/48 hours after sustaining serious head, chest and pelvic injuries and is receiving all necessary treatment.
“MSVR is in direct contact with the family, who extend their thanks for all the support that they are receiving, and to the BSB Medical Team and Racesafe marshals who attended Brad.
“Further information will be released when possible. Additional updates are not expected in the next 48 hours.”
Jones is competing in his maiden season of BSB after stepping up from the British Supersport Championship, where he finished runner-up to Rory Skinner in 2020.
