Danny Buchan’s hopes of making it through to the British Superbike Championship (BSB) Title Showdown this season have been dealt a blow after he suffered a concussion in a crash at Donington Park.

The Synetiq BMW rider has emerged as a potential title contender after a strong campaign - his first on the BMW M 1000 RR - headlined by a pair of wins at Knockhill, plus two further podiums, that have lifted him to fourth in the standings.

However, a crash during the second BSB race at Donington Park left him with a mild concussion, forcing him out of the concluding race of the weekend.

Moreover, with BSB rules dictating a rider diagnosed with concussion cannot then compete within seven days of the accident, Buchan will be forced to miss the second of back-to-back events, held this weekend at Cadwell Park.

"It just wasn’t my weekend and I’m feeling a little second hand but we will be back at Snetterton to get this Showdown effort back on track. I’m still in fourth place in the standings despite a difficult weekend at Donington but congratulations to Andrew on his podium.

“Thanks to everyone for their messages and I’ll be counting down the days to get back into my SYNETIQ BMW leathers at Snetterton.”

Despite missing three races, Buchan still stands a fighting chance of making it through to the title-deciding Showdown, not least because this year will see an expanded eight riders go for the ultimate crown.

As it stands he sits fourth in the overall standings and has 65 points in hand over the rider in ninth, Rory Skinner.
