O'Halloran defeats Ray, Haslam causes safety car | BSB Donington Race 3 Results
The third BSB race at Donington National gave Jason O’Halloran his second race win of the season, as he looked back to his 2021 best.
JASON O’Halloran did not start from pole position in BSB race three at Donington National, and in fact he had to come from row two on the grid to take his second win of the day.
O’Halloran’s charge to the front felt almost inevitable after his dominant race two performance, but after a complicated start to race three, the safety car interruption was certainly of benefit to the #22.
The safety car was out for a crash involving Leon Haslam and Glenn Irwin. Haslam high-sided on the exit of Starkey’s - seemingly from running over the kerb on the exit - and with Irwin right behind the #91, the Northern Irishman had nowhere to go. Both were, of course, out of the race, as was Peter Hickman who appeared to lose a winglet in the incident. Both Haslam and Irwin seemed to be okay after the crash, with Haslam running across the grass to check on Irwin, who in turn got to his feet.
After the safety car, Bradley Ray was able to make an advantage for himself at the front, pulling away from Rory Skinner in third. O’Halloran therefore wasted no time in passing the #11, although it took him a few laps to catch Ray.
Once there, O’Halloran hit the front and went unchallenged by Ray until the end, although the #28 kept the pressure on the Australian rider. It was a second win of the day, and of the season, for O’Halloran, who seems back to his best after a tricky start to 2022.
Bradley Ray’s consistent start to the season continues, and he has now made seven podiums in succession. In fact, Ray has only missed the podium in the second race at Silverstone, when he crashed from the lead.
Lee Jackson was back on the podium once again in third, with a slightly more quiet race on Sunday afternoon, but nonetheless it was a strong showing from the #14, over two seconds ahead of his teammate, Skinner, who finished fourth.
Skinner’s battle had been with Kyle Ryde, who took a solid fifth place after his race two crash. The gap behind Ryde was 1.5 seconds back to Christian Iddon, who took another strong sixth place on the Suzuki, ahead of Tom Sykes, whose seventh place was his best finish of the season.
Just behind Sykes was his PBM Ducati teammate, Josh Brookes, in eighth, ahead of a slightly improved Danny Buchan, and an impressive Chrissy Rouse who completed the top 10.
