As one Mackenzie toasts his BSB title, another bids farewell to the sport

Taylor Mackenzie has retired from motorcycle racing, starting his final race outing in the National Superstock 1000 Championship on the day his brother Tarran Mackenzie lifted the 2021 BSB Championship trophy.

On an emotional day for the entire family, Tarran succeeded in emulating his and Taylor’s three-time BSB title winning father Niall Mackenzie by beating Jason O’Halloran to the title, the 25-year old doing so in style with a trio of race wins.

Poignantly though, Tarran would share some of the spotlight with his brother Taylor, who had confirmed prior to the Brands Hatch finale that he would be hanging up his helmet at the end of the season. 

The elder of the Mackenzie brothers, Taylor competed across several categories on the BSB programme, enjoying the majority of his success in the Superstock 1000 class. 

Champion in 2016, he was also runner-up in 2019, while he joined Tarran on the BSB grid with stints at Moto Rapido Ducati and Synetiq BMW.

Mackenzie ended his 2021 National Superstock 1000 Championship season in sixth position with three victories to his name on the Bathams BMW, with his final race at Brands Hatch culminating in a fifth place finish having started from pole position.

His retirement means the Mackenzie name could disappear from the BSB paddock in 2022 amid talk Tarran is closing on a deal to move into the WorldSBK Championship.
