Peter Hickman, FHO BMW continue for 2022 BSB; TT to follow?
Peter Hickman commits once more to FHO Racing BMW for at least the 2022 British Superbike Championship (BSB) ahead of likely Isle of Man TT bid
Peter Hickman has confirmed he will line-up on the 2022 British Superbike Championship (BSB) grid with FHO Racing BMW once again following a successful race-winning campaign that took him into the Title Showdown.
The experienced racer returned to the upper echelons of the BSB pack with the new FHO Racing team, which morphed from the Smiths Racing team Hickman raced with in prior years.
Armed with the new BMW M 1000 RR, Hickman clinched two wins - his first since 2017 - on home soil at Cadwell Park, even coming to within a lap of making it a triple but for a mistake on the last revolution that allowed Jason O’Halloran to deny him.
Regardless, Hickman comfortably reached the eight-way Title Showdown for the fourth time in five seasons. He lies sixth heading into this weekend’s BSB finale at Brands Hatch with five podiums to his name.
“I am obviously really excited about next year and it is great to know I am staying with the FHO Racing BMW team. It is a fantastic team to work with, the crew all work really well together, which is awesome and so to have continuity with another year is great news.
“We will only get stronger and we are always learning, especially with the new BMW M 1000 RR. It has been working well this season and to have the momentum to continue developing and moving forward is fantastic. We can really hit the ground running next year and have a proper crack at the championship.
“This is the first time I have come into the final round with a mathematical chance of even winning the title, so this has been my strongest year in BSB. Although I finished fourth overall in 2017, I feel that this has been my strongest year as the championship gets harder and harder because of the competition, but for sure, this has been my strongest.
“We have had a bit of bad luck this year at times but we have lots to look forward to next year and we can’t wait.”
Though there is no mention here, Hickman will also front FHO Racing’s road racing efforts ahead of an anticipated return of the blue riband Isle of Man TT, North West 200 and Manx GP events that he has achieved success at.
He is currently the Isle of Man TT record-holder with a 135.452mph lap of the 37.73 mile Mountain Course.
