From sunshine to snow | Snowy weather cancels latest BSB test at Donington
The latest British Superbike Championship (BSB) test at Donington Park is cancelled due to snowy weather, just days after a March 'heatwave' at Snetterton
In what might be viewed as the most extreme case of the term ‘changeable British weather’, the latest British Superbike Championship (BSB) test at Donington Park has been cancelled after snow flurries on Thursday.
Series organisers MSV had planned to hold an additional day of official testing for the vast 34-strong grid at the Leicestershire circuit, just days after a two-day outing over the weekend at Snetterton.
However, while that test was baked in sunshine in unseasonably warm March temperatures, it was the entire opposite for those that did make the trip to Donington Park on Thursday.
With temperatures only marginally above freezing, snow fell at times to consign a select few teams and riders to the pit-lane before MSV chose to scrap the test altogether.
Indeed, though most of the field were originally penned to test at Donington Park, many had opted against the trip upon seeing the forecast conditions for cold, rain and snow.
However, it went ahead thanks to the efforts of the Herock Racesafe Marshals braving the conditions, but the weather was too extreme for any track action to take place.
As such, the teams and riders won’t have long to wait until the next test, due to take place on 6-7 April at Silverstone, just prior to the opening round taking place on 16-17 April.
McAMS Yamaha’s Jason O’Halloran was quickest during the Snetterton test, just ahead of BSB series returnee Tom Sykes on the MCE Ducati and OMG Racing Yamaha’s Bradley Ray.
